Third seed Stan Wawrinka suffered a shock fourth round exit at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells after losing to Belgian 15th seed David Goffin in straight sets.

Goffin broke Wawrinka seven times in a dramatic seesaw contest that lasted nearly two and a half hours before claiming the 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 victory with a tie-break at the end of the third set.

In other matches, world number one, Novak Djokovic claimed a routine 6-3, 6-3 over Feliciano Lopez to move into the quarter-finals, Rafael Nadal saw of Alexander Zverev to also advance, while Kei Nishikori, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Milos Raonic and Marin Cilic all progressed from the fourth round.

In the women’s singles, Serena Williams and Agneszka Radwanska set up a semi-final meeting after both came through easy quarter-final ties.

Top seed Williams outclassed Simona Halep 6-4, 6-3, while Polish third seed Agnieszka Radwanska overcame Petra Kvitova 6-2, 7-6.
